The results of the third Fresco International festival of Modern Art and spiritual films were summed up in Yerevan. The festival took place in Armenia from the 19th – 29th August. The winners were announced on the closing day.
What was it about?
“During the festival we watched dozens of films which mainly contained messages about Hope, Faith and Love. We tried to create a new-format-festival for Armenia which propagates our culture and history, as well as universal values”, said the coordinator of the festival Anna Karapetyan.
She mentioned that the name of the festival, which is translated as “refreshment”, symbolizes the challenge to change the values and learn something new.
“The festival pays attention to all social classes of Armenia, including people with limited abilities, by giving them a chance of social integration”, said Karapetyan. She thanked all the volunteers and those who helped to implement the festival.
The festival as a quintessence of spiritual values
The Abbot of the Church of the Holy Archangels in Jerusalem Ghevond Vardapet Hovhannisyan mentioned that the Fresco festival is the quintessence of propagation of Armenian culture and Christianity.
“The festival represents the 1700-year-old Armenian Christianity.The films in the festival teach us that despite wars and hatred, there’s kindness within people. I wish that the commandments of kindness always sound in our society”, said Ghevond Vardapet.
The opinions of foreign guests
Russian producer Anastasia Gerasyuk confessed that she doesn’t know any other festivals in this format, the aim of which is propagating spiritual values. “This is especially contemporary as nowadays people need it as never before. It was a great honor for me to participate in the contest project of the festival, to be in Armenia and to get acquainted with wonderful people”, said Gerasyuk.
The films “And the circus arrived” by Armenian producer Guzh Tadevosyan, “Khio” by Lilit Movsisyan, as well as the film by Spanish producer Juan Beiro “Vanil” where announced winners in nomination “The Best Message LOVE”. The winners of “The Best Message COURAGE” nomination are “The Theft” by Iranian producer Mohammad Farahani and “Tram to the Amusement Park” by Russian producers Evgeni Lalayev and Anastasia Gerasyuk.
And the movie of Russian-Ukrainian director Natalia Belyaeva “The Chosen Ones” won the prize in nomination “The Best Message FAITH”. In the same nomination won the film by French director William Eguienta “Until the End”. “The Best Message HUMANISM” prize was won by Spanish producer Pedro Soli¬s Garci¬a “Cuerdas” and in nomination “The Best Message PEACE” won Russian producer Nina Vedmitskaya’s film “Lesson Unlearned 14/41”.
Special prizes of the festival for spreading “PEACE AND LOVE” and “HUMANISM” won the guests of the festival Ghevond Vardapet Hovhannisyan of the Church of the Holy Archangels in Jerusalem and famous Jewish photographer Dmitry Brickman whose exhibition was held during the festival.
This year in the film list of Fresco festival were included 76 film tapes from 22 countries only 4 of which were Armenian. The jury of the film contest was the audience itself, during the first screening of each movie the participants voted for their favorite film on specially prepared papers.
Open-air screenings and discussions were organized in Swan Lake with the participation of producers, which will be closed with a concert. Being faithful to the adopted social mission, the festival gives special attention to the participation of special social groups in all stages of festival, and the prizes, according to tradition, were made by the children of Kharberd orphanage.
The second Fresco International Festival of Modern Art and Spiritual Films was held in Yerevan and provinces of Armenia from 27th June to 5th July, 2015 and was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and the first Fresco was organized in 2014, from 21st June to 6th July.
